MWP Digital Media found that Kickstarter projects that have a video are 85% more likely to achieve their funding goal and Startups.com reported that campaigns with personal videos raise 105% more than those that don’t have them.
Whether you are creating a Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or looking for equity crowdfunding through platforms like Start Engine or Fundable, communicating your product and service clearly and concisely through video is a good way to help get your campaign off the ground.
In this blog post, I’ll explain what your video should consist of in order to communicate your message and convince people why they should invest in you.
Start With Your Why
Many of you have probably seen this video before but for those of you who have not, Simon Sinek explains how some companies communicate their message starting with their "Why" and not their "What".
He uses Apple as an example of a company who always starts their marketing message with their mission statement, “Everything we do, we believe in challenging the status quo. In thinking differently.” This is a powerful way of showing people why you do what you do and not just what it is that you do.
Your video should explain your Why and what you’re trying to accomplish. A lot of times this could be a problem in the world that only you and your product or service can solve or it can be an objective that you and your team set out to accomplish.
As of 2019, Warby Parker’s about page starts with this sentence:
"Warby Parker was founded with a rebellious spirit and a lofty objective: to offer designer eyewear at a revolutionary price, while leading the way for socially conscious businesses."
That’s Great, But How?
Now that you have described your mission or the problem you intend to solve, how will you do it? This is where you use all of the hours you put into rehearsing your elevator pitch into practice. Explain how your company creates a quality product or how your app can finally solve that problem that so many people face.

What Makes You Different?
You’ve explained your Why and how you get the job done, now tell everyone what makes you different? Chances are, there are other companies who offer products or services similar to you, but we know you have something up your sleeve, something that puts you head and shoulders over the rest!
This could be the fact that you offer the best prices or that your quality is better than the competition or that you offer a full A-Z service instead of just a partial service.

This is something that will put you over the top and make sure that your audience knows that they need to invest in your product or service.
